Thursday’s best bets, by Greg Wood
The Class Three handicap at Beverley is competitive despite the small field, with Pleiades and Bow And Arrow vying for favouritism overnight at around 2-1. There is little or nothing between that pair and Enlace (3.00) on recent form, however, and Mark Johnston’s filly is worth backing 7-2 to emerge in front.
She was second off a mark of 80 at Newmarket last August, and while her form tailed off a little towards the end of the season, she has been working her way back to her best on the all-weather circuit. She ran well twice in the space of eight days in March and still looks fairly weighted off 82.
Two Jabs (3.30) improved when second at Wolverhampton last time and can race off just a 2lb higher mark in the 12-furlong handicap on the same card, while Zugswang (6.25) has had a couple of runs to work back towards peak fitness and is also edging down the weights. He was beaten a head into second off 79 at Chester last September and goes off just a 1lb higher mark here, having been rated 87 four runs ago.
High Intensity (7.05) is a 4-1 chance in a field of four at Southwell this evening and up against two recent winners, but has shown some promise on his three starts to date and could improve for the step up in trip on his handicap debut.
