11am Stobart to sponsor Flat jockey’s championship
Tony Paley: One of racing’s regular supporters, the Stobart Group, has been unveiled as the official sponsor of the 2015 Flat jockeys’ championships. The deal has been agreed on a one-year basis, with an option to renew.
Stobart chief executive Andrew Tinkler said: “Our brand’s association with racing is something we are very proud of.
“It has long been our intention to increase our involvement in the sport and the new championships provide an exciting way to do so.”
Monday’s best bets, by Tony Paley
Godolphin have got off to a fast start to the year and have an obvious chance of adding another winner to that total when the popular Windsor Monday evening meetings get underway for the Flat turf season tonight. The horse in question is Sparring (7.25) whose winning form at Lingfield in January has been franked and who could figure on a workable mark as he moves into handicap company.
At Pontefract the Richard Fahey-trained Beardwood (4.20), who went in to plenty of notebooks when second on his racecourse debut at Doncaster at the tail-end of the last Flat campaign, is expected to go one better in the six-furlong maiden at the track.
Tipping competition - a new week
Congratulations to Blitzwing, who picked Capard King (11-2) on Friday to seal victory in last week’s competition on a final score of +16, beating Lindsey6677 (+9) and ken_taylor (+8).
This week, wer’re offering you a second chance to win a copy of Racing & Football Outlook’s Flat Racing Guide 2015, including tips for the season ahead, profiles of horses to follow, detailed results from last year and trainer interviews among many features. If you don’t win, you can buy it here.
To kick things off, we’d like your selections, please, for these races: 3.20 Pontefract, 6.25 Windsor, 6.55 Windsor.
As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers.
In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
