11.55am Dettori misses rides at Windsor owing to illness
Frankie Dettori, who missed his scheduled ride at Goodwood the day after his Derby win on Golden Horn in June, has given up his rides at Windsor the day after his brilliant victory aboard the same colt in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe due to illness.
Dettori was due to take two rides at the track, with his third intended mount Zeshov a non-runner, but will not be in action. The jockey’s agent, Ray Cochrane, said: “Frankie won’t be riding today as he’s got an upset tummy.”
Reflecting on Sunday’s momentous triumph, Cochrane added: “He’s a great little horse, but it was a brilliant ride.
“We were wondering what we’d do when the draw was made, but Frankie rang me and he wasn’t worried at all and knew he’d get slotted in.
“Usually it doesn’t work out as you think and if it does, the horse gets a flat tyre! But it all worked out perfectly and when Frankie asked him, the horse just took off. It was a fantastic performance.”
Monday’s best bets, by Tony Paley
There’s plenty of interest at Windsor even if the effervescent Frankie Dettori is not showing up. Both diviisons of the two-year-old maiden are fascinating with a number of likely newcomers and the the closing handicap features a horse who could turn out a fair bit better than his curent rating.
The equine individual in question is Revolutionist (5.35) who looked a very smart prospect when winning on the all-weather at Lingfield in March. Mark Johnston’s runner is a very well-bred sort and could be in on a pretty lenient mark for his handicap debut. At the other end of the scale, Bazooka (3.25) is fancied to follow up his selling-race succes in the 10-furlong claimer.
Tipping competition - a new week
Congratulations to yasmin11, who won last week’s competition on a final score of +21 despite a winnerless Friday, holding on from millreef (+19) and the strong-finishing brownalebelly (+18.58).
This week, we’re giving you a second chance to win a copy of the Racing & Football Outlook Jumps Guide 2015, currently at the printers and expected in plenty of time for the Charlie Hall. It’s packed with its usual features, stats and expert views and can be purchased here if you don’t happen to win a copy.
To kick things off, we’d like your selections, please, for these races: 3.40 Pontefract, 3.50 Market Rasen, 4.00 Windsor.
As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers.
In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
