Today’s best bets
The owner Anthony Oppenheimer has been having a very thin time of things on the track this season compared with 2015, when the exploits of his Golden Horn brought such riches back from Epsom, Longchamp and elsewhere.
Three far-less-grand winners have carried his colours to victory on British tracks so far this season and Kummiya (8.00) could only contribute £4,690 towards the Oppenheimer kitty if he were to win the mile handicap at Ffos Las.
He’s 7-4 and those odds could just be on the generous side. The gelding’s win at Nottingham three weeks ago had Shamaheart a length and a half back in second. Shamaheart is no great shakes but has won his two races since, off higher handicap marks.
Kummiya himself must carry an extra 6lb but throw in the continuing good form of the Roger Charlton stable and Kummiya has strong prospects tonight. It is to be hoped that bottom weight Lilbourne Prince provides a decent pace by adopting the forcing tactics employed in recent runs.
Tipping competition – a new week
Congratulations to Fixxxer, who ensured his victory last week by picking Almuhalab on Friday for a final score of +9. That was just enough to hold on from the fast-finishing kingklynch (+8.50).
This week’s prize, generously offered by Doncaster racecourse, is a pair of County Enclosure tickets to St Leger day on Saturday 10 September. This is your chance to see the final Classic of the season, which this year may feature a clash between those classy youngsters Idaho, Red Verdon and Wings Of Desire. Or you can opt for Doncaster Cup day on the Friday, if you’d prefer. If you don’t win, you can read more about Doncaster’s four-day Leger meeting and buy tickets here.
To kick things off, we’d like your selections, please, for these races: 4.15 Wolverhampton, 4.30 Ayr, 7.20 Windsor.
As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers.
In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
