Friday’s best bets, by Tony Paley
My regular reader will know I take a particular interest in the Michael Wigham yard. I always keep an eye on the Newmarket trainer’s runners and today I reckon he has a winner lined up in the shape of Star Asset (4.20) at Brighton.
The 5-2 put up in the betting in the trade paper this morning was always unlikely to be available, but even at the short odds on offer now the selection looks worth a wager. He has proven form on a course similar to Brighton’s having triumphed at Epsom last time He has been raised 9lb in the ratings for that success but as he only has a 6lb penalty to carry he is well in at the weights. There is every reason to expect plenty of improvement given his profile and, all in all, it will be a shock if Star Asset doesn’t triumph this afternoon.
