Talking Horses

The ground at Nottingham today has eased to good to soft in places, ideal for Lethal Glaze (5.00) to follow up his win at Goodwood. Stamina won him the day when he got up close home to score over a mile, and today's 10-furlongs trip, which is a severe test for a two-year-old, should hold no fears for Richard Hannon's colt. He went up just 2lb for his victory and that could prove a lenient assessment of the Goodwood form.

Amateur rider Stephen Harrison and trainer Reg Hollinshead were on the mark with Opera Writer at Warwick the other day, and they have chances in the last race at Nottingham with Stravita (5.30). This filly is generally seen on the all-weather and was having just her third outing on turf when finishing a clear second to Kingsholm at Beverley last week. If she repeats that effort Stravita will not be far away in this similar grade.

From stall one in the sprint handicap at Newcastle, Morristown Music (2.40) looks sure to go well. She won here in identical circumstances on heavy ground last season, and showed signs of a return to form when third at Beverley last time. Having won off marks of 62 and 57 last year, she is now on 49.

Running late at Nottingham

There's been a technical hitch at Nottingham, where all races are starting one hour late this afternoon. That means the last will be off at a dusky 6.30pm - just as well it's Flat racing!
