Last week's tipping competition

Congratulations to Carl31 for pipping Sportingchad at the last with No Complaining in the 4.20 at Wolverhampton on Friday to win the competition. Courtesy of William Hill, sponsors of the King George VI Chase, your prize is two Premier Enclosure tickets for Boxing Day – weather permitting – at Kempton, with lunch, car parking and two £50 bets thrown in. You'll see Kauto Star attempt to win a record fifth King George on what should be a memorable day's racing. Tickets to the King George – likely on recent evidence to be a sell-out on the day – can still be bought here.

As mentioned last week, the tipping competition will take a break for the holidays and return on Monday 3 January. Meanwhile, Talking Horses will continue to appear on any day when horse racing is scheduled.

Today's tips

It's a bit chilly outside at the moment, so all racing has been abandoned for today, but I'm reliably informed that Kempton and Southwell are looking good for tomorrow so don't forget to get your tips from Talking Horses in the morning. In the meantime, comments are open below for any thoughts on racing, and particularly Tony McCoy's thoroughly deserved new status as the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year.
