Wet weather has washed out tomorrow's card at Wincanton, and Ascot and Haydock will hold precautionary inspections tomorrow morning. Conditions will be stamina-sapping at Catterick today and bets should be kept to a minimum in these circumstances. You wonder, for example, how the useful Flat recruit Whispering Death will cope on his hurdles debut -- he has more natural ability than anything else in the 2.45 race but he will never have encountered ground like this.
The best bet today is on the all-weather at Kempton Park, where Tancredi (6.50) looks to have a solid chance. Back down to his last winning mark, he looked unlucky not to finish closer when fifth behind Resplendent Ace here recently. His trainer, Neil King, is adept at getting one ready, either on the Flat or over jumps.
