Lingfield keeps the show on the road today after Carlisle went the same way as Market Rasen yesterday and succumbed to the cold snap.
Peter Chapple-Hyam will saddle two hot favourites on the all-weather card. Of the pair, General Blucher (3.35) will start at less prohibitive odds than Orientalist Art (2.25).
The latter stands out on his good run against Luck Money at Newmarket last May. He subsequently suffered from sore shins and has been given plenty of time to mature. But I gather he has been slow coming out of the starting stalls at home as he prepares for this. He wouldn't want to give too much ground away at the start round this fast seven furlongs.
General Blucher, the mount of Alan Munro, only has the Mark Johnston newcomer Smooth Sovereign to worry about, you would think. This is a Derby entry with a good pedigree, but General Blucher has the benefit of a previous run.
With top amateur Simon Walker riding, Wizard Looking (1.20) has plenty going for him on his first run for the shrewd Don Cantillon stable in the opening race. Wizard Looking has been off the track a long time, but he returns on a very handy mark in a poor heat.
2.30pm Two from two so far . . .
Wizard Looking won at 7-2 and Orientalist Art joined him at 3-10, albeit not quite so comfortably as one could wish at the price.
It's all down to Alan Munro . . .
3.40pm General Blucher wins at 8-11
Again, not as easy as the SP suggested it would be, but he got to the line in front under a cool ride from Alan Munro, his first in Britain for about 18 months.
