Catterick has survived a morning inspection, which could lead to a profitable return from the fifth race on the card. My news this morning suggests the Howard Johnson team are expecting Cool Operator (3.20) to give hot favourite Starting Point a run for his money. The latter is shouldered with a 10lb penalty and Cool Operator could represnt excellent each-way value at 5-1. The winner of a point-to-point in Ireland, he was well backed for an Aintree bumper in October, but something was clearly amiss. The stable retains faith in Cool Eperator, though, as he has been entered for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham. I gather he has been working pretty well with none other than Inglis Drever.
Chepstow, with the sort of ground they will be racing on today, makes little appeal for betting purposes. But at Kempton tonight Royal Amnesty (7.50) catches the eye on his first run for the Linda Perratt stable. Easibet Dot Net, from this yard, let us down at Wolverhampton last night but Royal Amnesty is well worth a bet off a good handicap mark at a course where he has recorded some of his best performances.
