If big-field York handicaps in midsummer are hard enough, end-of-season ones are pretty impenetrable. I have been waiting for Felday to reappear since his run in the Bronze Cup at Ayr last month when he romped home on the 'wrong' side. He may well win today at York but everyone else spotted his performance that day and he may be too skinny a price as favourite this afternoon in the 3.20. He has already been backed into 5-1 in what looks a very competitive heat.
In contrast Rowan Tiger (5.40), available at 100-30 this lunchtime, looks like a market leader who will go off at value odds considering he has won his last two races in the style of a progressive performer who looks to have every chance of completing a hat-trick at Lingfield today. The form of his latest success was franked when the runner-up won last time and he will be hard to beat off bottom weight this afternoon if running to a similar level.
Tipping competition, day five
Xwireman rattled up the rankings with a 16-1 winner yesterday, but our leader, tom1977, had the other two winners and extended his lead once more.
