There is quality racing at Newmarket today, but in truth it does not look a card for punting. Wingwalker is a very short price for the Somerville Tattersall Stakes, and while I expect him to retain his unbeaten record, there is better value elsewhere. In the Noel Murless Stakes, it might pay to take on hot favourite Savarain with Fiulin (3.10). His trainer, Marco Botti, is enjoying a fine run and this progressive three--year-old could be hard to peg back if Ryan Moore makes plenty of use of him. Fiulin has clearly improved since he finished behind Savarain at Royal Ascot, and there might be a question mark over the favourite following his 64-day absence.
From the outside stall, favourite Spate River has his work cut out in the 15-runner mile handicap at Goodwood. Well placed in 13, Hayley Turner's mount Bluejain (5.05) can reward each-way support. Dayia (2.45), a useful bumper winner, will not have to run up to a high level of form on her Flat debut to get off the mark in the 14-furlong maiden race at Goodwood.
