While the Lexus Chase and the reappearance of Denman provides the quality on today's Leopardstown card, the race that looks most interesting from the punting angle is the novice handicap hurdle. Since he last ran over hurdles, Sandymount Earl (12.55) has shown much improved form on the Flat, winning the Irish Cesarewitch at The Curragh on his last outing. It is a slight cause for concern that Jessica Harrington's horses have been a bit quiet recently, but based on his Flat form Sandymount Earl could make a mockery of his hurdles mark here.
It is low-key sport at Catterick, but Northern Quest (2.55) has a major chance at the weights of the Zetland Handicap Chase after putting up a much-improved run to finish third over this course and distance last week. If he can run to the same level again he will be hard to beat.
