Ripon, one of the finest remaining examples of a well-run, independently-owned racecourse, has the best racing on offer in Britain for the second day running. Patience is required though as today's meeting is an evening card, and if the weather in Yorkshire is anything like it is in Sussex, there will be no finer place to be later on than the self-styled Garden Racecourse.
As for possible winners, Dick Bos (8.15) was a little below form on heavy ground last time out but he has every chance on his previous run over course and distance now that conditions will be a little less demanding.
He is a recent recruit to the David O'Meara yard and his excellent new trainer looked to have plenty to work on in early May when Dick Bos finished a length and a half behind Klynch, form that he should comfortably reverse today on 9lb better terms. Yeeoow, from the yard which sent out the runner-up in the Derby, is the obvious danger, but there is no value in his price.
Elsewhere on the card, Antonio Gramsci (7.45) and Filatore (9.15) make some appeal, while Flirtinaskirt (Southwell 3.30) and Chestnut Ben (Newton Abbot 2.50) are the best bets on the afternoon cards.
Tipping competition, day three
Our leader is: 72luca (+24) who had Azrael (20-1) yesterday and Dancing Maite (8-1) on Monday. Also, here's a nod to Sangfroid, another Azrael fan, who also had Talent on Friday and has therefore tipped two 20-1 winners in a matter of days, albeit not (unfortunately) in the same week.
Winners so far this week:
Monday
Reply 2-1
Dancing Maite 8-1
Harry Bosch 4-1
Tuesday
Valentino Oyster 9-2
Rattlin 7-2
Azrael 20-1
Today, we'd like your tips, please, for these races: 4.40 Ayr, 4.50 Newton Abbot, 7.30 Kempton.
This week's prize is a pair of Grandstand Enclosure tickets to day one of Royal Ascot, Tuesday 18 June. Do please state if you're playing but can't use the tickets – then, if you win, we'll pass them on to the next person. These folk have so far ruled themselves out: ToffeeDan1, Sportingbest, slackdad38, markahoy, diegoisgod, jakebuckfast (but was he joking?), wemeanyounoharm, TL127.
In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.
As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers.
If you have not joined in so far this week, you are welcome to do so today, but you will start on -6.
