At odds of 10-1, Pangbourne (1.40) is each-way value against the odds-on favourite Nevada Royale in the opener at Newbury today. Alan King's gelding has looked ungenuine on several occasions but, with the blinkers left off, he went sweetly for today's jockey Jack Doyle at Chepstow last time. Pangbourne has always been a horse with loads of ability. He might now be starting to use it.
Despite Linda Perratt's name appearing on the trainer's licence, Ian Semple is still very much part of proceedings at Belstane Stables. This yard has a knack of improving horses and Shunkawakhan (4.00) is well worth an interest at Wolverhampton on his first outing for the Wishaw team. At Lingfield, Ed Dunlop's Canary Islands (3.40) looks well treated on his handicap debut.
