Today's best bets, by Chris Cook

It was, of course, brilliant to have jump racing back for only the second time in a fortnight when Cheltenham staged a thrilling card yesterday. Still, it seems that my discipline may have suffered in all the excitement. Normally the sort of punter who bets sparingly and only at double-figure odds, I seem to have had a bet in almost every race and ended up well behind, despite backing two winners.

Let's hope that I've calmed down a bit and that the following selections are founded in ruthless reason rather than being randomly chosen in a moment of fevered excitement.

Unfortunately, there is no jump racing in Britain after Huntingdon's abandonment this morning and the spotlight is on the all-weather again. It's almost two years since Majuro (1.15) turned up at Southwell, which seems an oversight on the part of his connections, since his form figures at this specialist's track are 122. He rocketed home last time in a Wolverhampton seller that he was fully entitled to win and he is again the best horse in today's claimer, though the opposition is stronger.

That last win was his first run for Stuart Williams and he was hammered down to 2-7. I should think this trainer knows what he has and I hope to see Majuro supported again. Inevitably, he will be odds-on but 4-5 would be fair in my eyes.
