Paul Nicholls is confident Kauto Star's Gold Cup preparations will not be held up after the injury scare surrounding the gelding following his impressive win at Ascot yesterday. Fears that Kauto Star was lame have proved unfounded. "He had an infection in his off-hind foot, and when the pus was released he was sound again,'' Nicholls told me this morning. "He would have had 48 hours just walking anyway, and he should be back cantering on Wednesday.'' Kauto Star is back as Gold Cup favourite after the major firms had suspended betting last night.
Kauto Star's jockey Ruby Walsh has strong book of rides at Navan today. It is always significant when he teams up with the trainer Tony Martin, and Save The Bacon (3.10) looks a likely contender for the pair.
