The ground is now officially soft at Goodwood today, resulting in a raft of non-runners, but conditions will be ideal for Maimoona (2.45) in the 6f fillies handicap. Trained by the in-form Willian Haggas, Maimoona romped home by four lengths in heavy ground at Ripon last time. She has an 8lb higher mark to contend with, but looks the sort to do well at this level.
There is a strong British, and irish, challenge for the Prix Morny at Deauville. With 15 due to go to post, this is one of the most open renewals of the Group One contest I can remember. Brian Meehan, whose horses are in better form now than at any other stage of the season, runs two and Gallagher (2.15) looks sure to go well. He was checked in his run, otherwise might well have won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood, and Gallagher is well regarded in a stable full of promising juveniles.
