Ayr racing

With the Wimbledon final and the British Grand Prix among the other attractions this afternoon, the low-key cards at Ayr and Market Rasen will struggle to compete for the betting pounds of even the most committed racing fans. A couple of the race names at Ayr actually encourage backers to go out and punt on the alternatives, and as odds-on shots go, Roger Federer does look a very big price at 1.54 on Betfair.

Both are fair meetings as these things go, however, and Le Chat D'Or (3.30) in particular catches the eye in the feature handicap at the Scottish track.

Michael Dods's four-year-old shows his best form with some cut, and put up a career-best performance on heavy ground at Newcastle last time out. Along with the favourite, Hakuna Matata, Le Chat D'Or finished nearly three lengths clear of the third, and the also-rans have since produced a winner and a solid second.

A 5lb rise on the weights is unlikely to stop him, and it is a surprise to find 4-1 available this morning.

Elsewhere on the same card, Elnadancer (2.00) looks solid in the opener, and so too Emeralds Spirit (2.30), while over the jumps at Market Rasen, Delgany Gunner (4.15) can make it four wins from his last five starts in the handicap chase.
