In a recent stable interview, Sue Smith described Young Smokey (12.20) as a "well handicapped'' horse. The six-year-old has her first outing for Smith since moving from the Peter Beaumont yard at Bangor today, and he should go well despite opposition from the Hobbs and Pipe establishments.
The three-mile handicap hurdle at Bangor is competitive, but Flintoff (2.25) is well treated compared with his current chase rating and trainer Venetia Williams should have him in good shape for what is a valuable prize by midweek jumping standards.
Count Kristo (2.05) has another go over fences at Newbury after showing improved hurdles form. His chase efforts earlier this season were largely disappointing, but Brendan Powell's horses are in much better form now. With a clear round he will be hard to beat.
