Wednesday's best bets, by Tony Paley

Luca Cumani could not be in better form and his new recruit, Moldowney (2.50), is suggested as the best bet of the day at Epsom. He ran some excellent races in handicaps for Tommy Stack before being bought and transferred to the trainer's Newmarket yard. The selection has been gelded and should go well in a wide-open heat.

Tipping competition, day three

Lcprestes was the only one to find Il Fenomeno (16-1) yesterday, while only AlexCook and CorvusFrugilegus had Mount Benbulben (14-1). These Punchestown races are clearly a bit tricky, whereas Yarmouth is clearly straightforward. Eight of you had Jonnie Skull (12-1), who was, of course, tipped on here.

TL127, I'd have loved to stay out for Punchestown but that gig is all Greg's and I have a young 'un to look after. Oddly, one of m'colleagues who flew back with us on Monday night was planning to fly back to Ireland on Tuesday morning. He must be fond of airports.

Today, we'd like your tips, please, for these races: 2.50 Epsom, 5.30 Punchestown, 5.35 Perth.

This week's prize is a copy of Henry Cecil: Trainer of Genius, by Brough Scott, the biography which has attracted a fair amount of media attention in the last fortnight. Described by the accompanying blurb as "one of the great redemption songs of sporting history", the book was published just 10 days ago. Scott says of Cecil: "His has been the most gripping racing story ever told, because the career which he brought to a climax with Frankel has the quality that only the Gods can bestow". If you don't win, you can buy a copy here.

As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be four each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers. If you have not joined in so far this week, you are welcome to do so today, but you will start on -6.

In the event of a tie at the end of the week, the winner will be the tipster who, from among those tied on the highest score, posted their tips earliest on the final day.

Good luck!
