2.10pm Two days down, three to go
Goodwood is not on the scale of Galway but we're still not at the halfway stage with plenty of superb sport to come. Yeats is centre stage today and 9-4 on now after the withdrawal of the fascinating Mad Rush. I note that the wily Luca Cumani has left him in the Ebor and the owner's racing manager is not worried about the fact that he has a big weight to carry.
2.30pm Godolphin woe continues
Frankie Dettori and Godolphin with Folk Opera are denied by Gravitation by the narrowest of margins in the opener. Guardian tip Hi Calypso never threatened and ran way below form. Got a sneaking feeling for Fat Boy in the next.
2.55pm Godolphin far from Dandy
The well-backed Dandy Man continues the poor run of the Godolphin team in the big races as he can only manage third behind Enticing, who records a very fast time in the process. The ground is riding ultra-quick for those with an eye on the races to come, especially the Stewards' Cup on Saturday which looks wide open.
3.55pm Yeats poetry in motion
Yeats first, the rest nowhere in the Goodwood Cup. But: 1. What were bulk of the jockeys doing allowing Johnny Murtagh such an easy time? 2. How much did the Ballydoyle team pay Tungsten Strike to do the pacemaking?!
5pm Give this one House room
House, Ron Cox's bet of the day, finishes second but is the biggest eye-catcher of the week in my opinion. He didn't settle early and failed to get a clear run but was some way clear of the rest of the field at the finish. He looks a horse Luca Cumani can win a decent handicap with in the coming weeks.
