Today's best bets, by Tony Paley
The major advantage punters have over bookmakers is that we can pick and choose when to wager. We don't have to have a bet whereas the bookmakers are obliged to price up every race.
Today looks a day in which to be wary and there are no strong fancies. However, there is an interesting pointer to runners in the first two races at Goodwood today. Ralph Beckett has an incredibly profitable record with his two-year-olds and just placing £1 on every juvenile runner of his in the last five years would have left you £118.59 up.
His runners are especially worth noting second time out and Oasis Dancer (2.00) and Cast Of Stars (2.35) make their second appearance on the track today. They are worth a punt on a day when there are no standout bets.
Tipping competition, day three
Ste33 made very good progress yesterday but Suckzinclee still has a clear lead. Our winner this week will get four tickets for the meeting on 10 October at Ascot, which hosts the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Saturday, the highlight of an excellent three-day meeting at the Berkshire track.
The three races we'd like your selections on today are: 2.15 Redcar, 2.50 Redcar and 4.00 Redcar.
As ever, our champion will be the tipster who returns the best profit to notional level stakes of £1 at starting price on our nominated races, of which there will be three each day up until Friday. Non-runners count as losers.
