Provided he is in the same form as he showed at Market Rasen last week, Zacharova (2.00) should follow up in the first race at Leicester today. He sauntered across the line to win there and a 7lb penalty doesn't cover the improvement. He is a short price, though, and it is tempting to consider an each-way ":saver'' on Parish Oak, winner of the race last year. Yes, he is in the veteran stage now and hasn't been running well this season, but his trainer, Tony Carroll, has hit form recently and Parish Oak goes particularly well for today's rider, Wayne Hutchinson.
Carroll has a more obvious chance at Leicester with Mokum (3.00). Well-handicapped at present, the seven-year-old is a course winner and has run well here on his last two starts. His stable is in better form now than when Mokum finished fourth behind Basic Fact here just after Christmas.
