Talking Horses

With one run, and one impressive win to his name, Riggins (4.30) is very much in the "could be anything'' category. We shall know a lot more after his run at Great Leighs today, but the chances are Riggins is a lot better than his current handicap mark. The fact that he has been kept in training at all is a pointer to this four-year-old, who stormed home by seven lengths at Wolverhampton last year. He has been entered for the Cambridgeshire and the £100,000 John Smith's Handicap at Newbury, so Riggins must have been showing his trainer something beyond the bare form of his maiden-race win.

At Catterick, McQueen (3.20) reverts to the Flat following two easy wins over hurdles and he could be hard to beat, especially if he gets his own way out in front. With Seb Sanders doing the pushing, veteran sprinter Raccoon (4.20) looks set to improve his good Catterick record of two wins and a place from four starts.
