Talking Horses

After the excitement of Arc day, it is back to basics with Monday's domestic cards. But there looks to be a banker bet in the shape of Cheviot (3.00) at Windsor. It will be disappointing if Michael Jarvis's colt cannot win off this mark, as he ran really well in a much tougher contest when fourth behind Nasri at Newbury. He handles give in the ground and has plenty of speed, so he should not be troubled by this first run over five furlongs.

At a big price, Quest For Success (2.20) is worth a second look at Warwick. He was successful for Richard Fahey last year and is back with the Malton trainer after a spell with David Murray Smith, who recently quit as trainer to owner Rob Lloyd. It would be no surprise to see the gelding stage a return to form.

With a question mark over Godolphin runner Veracity, who showed little on his comeback, Dolly Penrose (3.40) could be the one in the 2m2f Phil Bull Trophy at Pontefract. Smart jumper Tazbar is interesting, but Dolly Penrose, a full sister to Mick Channon's tough stayer Misternando, is bred to come into her own given this stamina test.
