Taliban prepare to form new ruling cabinet as Allies leave Afghanistan

The Taliban are reportedly preparing to form a new cabinet as the US extraction of of its nationals and supporters draws to a close..

It comes amid hopes that fears of currency falls and economic turmoil following the group's takeover of Kabul two weeks ago will decline.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the movement's spokesman, commented to the Reuters news agency as the US military winds down its mission to evacuate citizens and vulnerable Afghans and withdraw troops from Kabul airport ahead of the August 31 deadline set by Joe Biden, the president.

The timing of the formation of a new cabinet remained unclear, but the makeup of the body would be cleared "in one or two weeks".

Mr Mujahid said officials had already been appointed to run institutions including the ministries of public health and education and the central bank.

The United Nations has cautioned that Afghanistan faces a humanitarian catastrophe, with large parts of the country suffering from extreme drought conditions, plus the possible loss of foreign aid.

Mr Mujahid was quoted as saying: "The fall of Afghani against foreign currency is temporary and it is because of the situation that suddenly changed, it will come back to normal once the government system starts functioning."
