Talented young cricketer 'in induced coma' as he fights for life

A talented young cricketer who was involved in a horrific road accident is in an induced coma as he fights for his life in hospital.

Alex Moffitt, 17, was struck by a grey coloured Honda CR-V in the early hours of Saturday morning in Maghull.

The teenager was walking along Kenyons Lane, near the junction with Dodds Lane, when he was struck at around 1.50am.

He suffered serious head injuries and was taken to The Walton Centre for neurosurgery, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Obsessed stalker, 62, repeatedly ran over estranged wife and said he wanted to kill her

The update on his condition was given in a social media post from Maghull Youth Under 18s cricket team, of which Alex was a member.

They said Alex remained in an induced coma and the swelling on his brain was being monitored.

Following the collision, a 50-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving. She has since been released under investigation.

Well-wishers have flooded social media with messages of support for Alex and his family.

Maghull Cricket Club also put a post on its Twitter account to share the news and to send best wishes to Alex's family.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit are now appealing for witnesses following the collision.

Former Liverpool FC player Gary McAllister 'attacked' after legends match

Inspector Phil McManus said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or may have seen the vehicle in the area prior to the collision occurring.

"We would urge anyone who lives in the area and has CCTV to check if it has captured footage of the vehicle or collision itself. Likewise, we would be grateful for anyone with dashcam footage to please get in touch."
