Talented Vale singing duo steal hearts with performance on The Voice Kids

Talented Vale duo Ava MacFarlane and Alfie King have stolen the hearts of the nation after their performance on The Voice Kids on Saturday.

The tartan-clad double act got the support of music megastar Will.i.am as he gave them the seal of approval during the talent show’s blind auditions.

The Black Eyed Peas frontman welcomed the youngsters into his team as the contest goes on to the battle stages next month.

Ava’s delighted mum Angela Park told the Lennox Herald how she and Alfie’s mum, Tracey, struggled to contain their excitement backstage.

Angela said: “Tracey and I were shaking. We were so nervous but we were trying not to let them see we were nervous.

“We were all behind the stage and, when they got through, there was no feeling like it.”

Ava and Alfie started the audition process back in August with filming beginning at the end of last year.

Their families have been kept tight-lipped since but made the big reveal that the duo had made it to the next round with a party for family and friends at the Vale golf club on Saturday.

They watched on as outgoing Ava told judges Will.i.am, Jessie J, Pixie Lott and Danny Jones of McFly how she previously asked Alfie out but was still waiting on his answer.

After selecting them, Will.i.am said : “You guys are like little adults, you are so adorable and you, little Miss Attitude there, I love your energy. We’re going to have fun on our team.”

The pair attend Singer Station where they have been coached by Louise and Des Macfarlane, who run the performance school.

Angela added: “Louise and Des were a massive part of getting them there. They helped a lot with extra singing lessons and building their confidence.”

Alongside the mums, Alfie’s dad Jeremy and brothers Charlie and Harry — as well as Ava’s dad Scott and sisters Ciara and Lyla four — watched on with pride.

They sang Photograph by Ed Sheeran, which Angela said was the perfect choice.

She added: “They were trying to find a song they could connect to and that came up. Alfie absolutely loves Ed Sheeran and the song told a story about their friendship.”

Ava returned to class at Christie Park Primary and Alfie to St Ronan’s Primary yesterday but will be back on our screens next month.
