Talented swimmer Millie McArthur takes bronze at major championships

Young Lanark ASC swimmer Millie McArthur did her club proud at the Scottish National Age Group Championships at Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow.

Representing the South Lanarkshire Swim Team at the event, Millie (12) competed in the 11-13 years age group.

Millie reached six finals from as many swims, finishing sixth in the 200m individual medley, seventh in 200m butterfly, 50m freestyle and 400m IM and eighth in the 200m breaststroke and ninth in 50m backstroke.

She won a deserved bronze medal in the 4 x 100m mixed medley relay, and was fourth in two other relays.

Euan McLeod (14) posted personal bests in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle.

There were solid performances from Erin Snow, Abbigail McArthur, Heather Stevenson and Mitchell Stevenson.

After the five-day nationals, coach Karen Kelly said: “Millie exceeded her own and indeed my expectations with her performances. This was a huge step-up for her.

“She became the first female Lanark swimmer to reach a national final in all four strokes and IM, and swam with a maturity beyond her years.”
