Talented Scots girl ice skates across deserted car park in Blantyre

A talented Scots schoolgirl turned a deserted car park into ice rink to show off her incredible figure skating.

Ava Parkinson has stunned people across Scotland after her mum shared a clip of her whizzing around the concrete.

The nine-year-old figure skater from Blantyre grabbed the opportunity after her local ice rink closed during lockdown.

Freezing temperatures brought a layer of thin ice across Scotland, with people seen skating across frozens ponds.

She took to the frozen tarmac in a car park across from her primary school while her mum Fiona Parkinsons filmed her.

Sharing it on social media the post got hundreds of likes as people praised Ava's impressive moves at the unusual location.

Mum Fiona the Daily Record: "Her friend had asked if she wanted to try skating on the streets as it was so icy which they did and together they suggested we move round the corner to the car park to see if it was nice and flat.

"I really didn't think it would be but they skated, we tried to walk and it was flat and solid ice.

"I took the little clip not realising how far it would reach.

"We've had messages from people in Australia saying what a brilliant idea.

"She's really missing her ice skating and her friends and coach at the rink but the car park definitely took her mind off the rink being shut for a little while."
