Talented Glaswegian girl to star in BBC’s Call the Midwife Christmas Day special

An eight-year-old Scot will star in the Christmas Day special of Call the Midwife .

Glaswegian Kayla Caldwell will be the lead child in one of the most watched television shows tomorrow as many of the nuns and midwives leave London and Nonnatus House for the Outer Hebrides to help pregnant women.

Kayla stars as Isla MacLeod whose mum Mina, played by Kirsty Stuart, is pregnant.

Mina also has to deal with her feisty niece Effie Tolmie, played by Eilidh Fisher, who yearns for some freedom.

Kayla's management team revealed that the youngster has been preparing for a "very painful storyline" (Daily Record)

Karen Caldwell, Kayla’s mum, said: “We are so thrilled we will see her on TV in one of Christmas Day’s biggest programmes, especially when she has worked so hard to complete the job.

“We are so proud and would like to thank everyone involved in making our little girl’s dreams come true”

The young Scots star of the future is a student at the Theatre School of Scotland and took a break over Easter to film in the Western Isles .

Kayla’s management team Reece Donnelly and Katie Rutherford revealed they worked with the youngster on her accent and preparation for the role in a “very painful storyline.”

The Call the Midwife Christmas special airs tomorrow on BBC1 at 7pm.
