Talented GAA player wins bag of potatoes for her recent brilliant performances

While professional athletes are used to winning statues, trinkets and bottles of champagne for a brilliant individual performance, St Michaels Gaelic Football Club in Kells, Meath have decided to have a bit of fun with the time-tested honour.

Laura Halpin is a talented player who recently played in three matches over the weekend for the club - she's on both the St. Michaels senior and junior panels.

After displaying fitness levels that would put most inter-county players to shame, Laura completed three matches in a period of five days - two were for the juniors and the other was a senior league match.

How would the club honour these superb individual performances? Well, keep your eyes peeled to the photo below.

In terms of the players in the photo, we're looking at Aine Sheridan (who is a panellist with the Meath senior ladies), Laura Halpin and Kate Sheridan.

As you can see, after a superb individual effort like that to help her club, Laura is most definitely not a couch potato.

L to R: Aine Sheridan, Laura Halpin and Kate Sheridan (Pascal Reilly/St Michaels GFC)

Pascal Reilly is the club's PRO and he explains why they opted for this spud-tacular ceremony.

"The story behind this is as follows, the 'presentation' was instigated for a bit of fun by the two sisters in the photo Aine and Kate Sheridan.

"The Sheridan family are large potato growers in North Meath and Laura Halpin who is on both the St. Michaels senior and junior panels had just finished her third match in five days ( 2 x junior & 1 x senior league matches) when the "player of the week' presentation was made by the Sheridan siblings and their St. Michaels team-mates.," said Reilly.

After Laura delivered a few (s)mashing performances over the last few days, she's a very deserving recipient and fair play to the club for thinking outside the box too.
