Takumi Minamino's Liverpool shirt number confirmed and the past players he will follow

Takumi Minamino officially signed for Liverpool this morning - and it has been confirmed that he will take over the number 18 shirt on January 1.

The Red Bull Salzburg forward has signed for a fee of £7.25 million, with the 24-year-old passing his medical earlier this week.

The shirt number that the Japanese international will take was most recently held by Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno, who departed during the summer after five seasons on Merseyside.

Before that, Dirk Kuyt, who netted a total of 71 goals for the club, was in possession of it after he took over from Antonio Nunez.

Other Reds to have worn the number 18 shirt include John Arne Riise, Erik Meijer and Michael Owen, who was number 18 between 1996 and 1998.

Minamino will join the Reds on January 1, meaning that he could make his debut in the Merseyside derby which is scheduled for the fifth day of the New Year.
