Takumi Minamino opens up on part former Man Utd star played on his move to Liverpool

Takumi Minamino admits he discussed his move to Liverpool with former Manchester United man Shinji Kagawa before completing the deal.

The Japanese star made the switch to Anfield in January after the Reds won the race for his signature.

Minamino had attracted plenty of interested following his performances for Red Bull Salzburg and was signed in a £7.25m transfer.

But he sought the advice of Kagawa who made the move to Old Trafford in 2012 from Borussia Dortmund.

Minamino revealed to Super Soccer : "Yes, I said 'What do you think?' when I was still thinking, I was still thinking because there were other options so...which club I can't tell you!

"Kagawa said: "He (Klopp) is a manager who has a good understanding of players".

"I wanted to listen to the words of Kagawa, who was together with Klopp."

The Japanese international arrived into a team that had already got one hand on the Premier League trophy such was their dominance.

Much was expected of Minamino, but his slow start has meant he has been unable to register a goal or an assist yet.

He concedes that being unable to contribute in th final third has bothered him, but the confidence installed by Jurgen Klopp is a massive plus as he aims to become a first team regular.

"We won the league and I am so happy I could experience that," he added. "But I wanted to have goals or assists.

"I pay a lot of attention to them, so it's regrettable that I couldn't achieve it.

"In our team, players who can't play in a match never speak ill of him (Klopp). He watches the training of substitute players from beginning to end.

"To players who are in good condition he says 'you have a chance in the next match'.

"He is fair minded. We could feel it, so we think we have a chance if we work hard. That's an amazing thing."
