Takumi Minamino 'not a priority' for Man Utd as Liverpool close in on January transfer

Manchester United are said to not be interested in Red Bull Salzburg winger Takumi Minamino, with the 24-year-old thought to be closing in on a move to Liverpool .

Minamino has impressed for the Austrian side this season, scoring eight goals in 19 games in all competitions, including two goals in the Champions League.

He found the net in Salzburg's 4-3 loss to Liverpool, and it looks as though they saw enough of the player to convince them to sign him in January.

It was thought at one stage that United were also keen on the Japanese star, but according to Manchester Evening News the Red Devils actually had no interest in the player, and are thought to be pursuing a deal for his teammate Erling Haaland instead.

Minamino is expected to cost Liverpool just £7.75m due to a release clause in his contract, and he will provide competition for the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino if he joins.

Haaland, meanwhile, is thought to have visited RB Leipzig and Dortmund as he contemplates his future, and the 19-year-old looks set for a move in January.

United are known to want to add a midfielder and a forward in January, and have also been linked with the likes of Sean Longstaff, Callum Wilson and Moussa Dembele.

United are back in action on Thursday when they take on AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League, and although they have already qualified for the knockout stages Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists they will take the game seriously.

"Of course I'm bothered," Solskjaer said. "Every time you play you have a chance to prove to yourself and your teammates and me that you deserve to be part of this team for a long time.

"We're on the right track and I see the boys training every day and the attitude and the quality so I've not been that worried."
