Takumi Minamino asks major Liverpool question as Jurgen Klopp hint offered

Sunday's win over Brentford was a massive improvement on last week's draw to Arsenal. It wasn’t a perfect performance, but it’s never going to be.

We had better balance with Jones on the left side and Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right side. The problem is that Firmino and Jota play down the middle and they would struggle to play in wide positions, so it’s always one or the other in attack. Klopp went for Bobby, but he just doesn’t look like scoring at the minute. He did great for the Minamino goal, but he needs a goal.

I thought Jurgen may have tried Firmino in behind Jota, but that would mess up his three in midfield. There was a better balance with Chamberlain, and it was good to see him get a goal. The ball from Robbo for his goal was a striker’s dream, take it from me.

You can’t defend against those types of crosses, we've seen it a number of times now.

Chamberlain has had some real bad luck, and it was a real shame to see him go off injured after scoring.

Whenever he is on a run of games, he gets impeded. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a twisted ankle. I don't think it's one which will keep him out for a long time. Let’s hope that he will be OK.

As for Minamino, who scored the third goal of the game against Brentford, his role within the side is not particularly clear.

He has played more games against the so-called lesser sides in the cups this season and if you look at his goals-per-minute ratio, it’s actually pretty good.

But the main question is: where does he fit in this Liverpool team?

Minamino is not going to play down the middle. When you play two solid midfield players, he could have a bit of a free role.

I don’t really see him as a winger and I don’t think he’s suited as the out-and-out forward. What I would say, though, is that he always gets himself into good situations in the box and looks likely when on the pitch.

It is unfortunate that his miss against Arsenal could cost us a place at Wembley, but we’ve all missed those. He has scored nearly every game he has played in this year, but whether he is good enough for us going forward... I’m not sure.

We haven’t seen much of him on a consistent basis, and that might tell you something about what his rapport is like with the manager.

Arsenal's extra rest shouldn't be a cause for concern

Arsenal had the weekend off while we faced Brentford after requesting their match against Tottenham to be postponed.

All of their fans are now cowering as they have done exactly what they slated Liverpool for doing one week earlier. They have contradicted themselves big time, but we just have to take on Thursday’s game – if it goes ahead that is. They’ve got a fair few injuries, but the rules are very flimsy. You’ve got to take their word for it.

Their extra time off doesn’t concern me. You can look too much into that at times.

A few of our players needed that Brentford game, so there’s no problem with that. The manager can’t really try out his squad as much as he wants to as we’re missing a few players. Klopp will just have to go with his strongest team against Arsenal again.
