'Taking too long' - Liverpool given Mohamed Salah contract warning

Liverpool have been warned that they are “taking too long” with Mohamed Salah’s contract negotiations.

The Reds have been locked in talks over a new deal for Salah over the past few months, with no agreement being reached at this stage.

Salah’s current deal is set to expire in 18 months in the summer of 2023, the same as Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Egyptian has been in fine form for Liverpool this season, racking up 23 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions.

However, Liverpool are now without their star forward for the next few weeks as he, Mane and Keita have jetted off to Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Former Everton striker Kevin Campbell has suggested that Paris Saint-Germain could “zero in” on Salah amid his contract talks with Liverpool.

“Salah could be top of the list. It’s a real possibility,” Campbell told Football Insider .

“The negotiations are taking too long at Liverpool. They are giving other teams an opportunity to zero in on him. They are opening the door. That needs to be sorted out as soon as possible.

“PSG will be interested in somebody who can score the amount Salah does, 100 per cent. Who wouldn’t be?

“PSG are going to need to replace Mbappe’s goals if he is to leave. There are not many in the world who could do that but Salah is certainly one of them.”

Despite there being no announcement of a new contract for Salah, Jurgen Klopp did not seem too worried about the situation when asked about it last month.

Klopp said he “couldn't care less” about when Salah’s new contract gets wrapped up, and hinted that one could be on the horizon in the future.

"We are in really good conversations," Klopp told Sky Sports News last month.

"I want it to happen, but when? I couldn't care less. We're having good conversations. That's the answer."
