Kai Havertz has provided an encouraging sign for Chelsea after getting on the scoresheet for Germany.
The Blues’ attacking midfielder has struggled so far this season following his £62million move from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, scoring just once for his new club as he takes time to adapt to Premier League football.
However, playing for his country, Chelsea fans may have finally got a glimpse of the player the club spent so much money bringing to Stamford Bridge.
Just seven minutes into Germany’s World Cup qualifying match against Iceland and with the home side already a goal to the good, Havertz found space in the penalty area to drill home a fine strike to double their advantage.
Chelsea fans were understandably pleased to see the player on the scoresheet and will be hoping the 21-year-old can use the goal to kickstart his Blues career.
With Havertz’s Chelsea teammates Ben Chilwell, Reece James and Mason Mount also all impressing on England duty, supporters had every reason to be excited about the club’s stars on the night.
Harvertz and Germany had little difficulty navigating past Iceland 3-0 as they laid down a marker in their opening qualifier.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s England trio all claimed assists against San Marino as England ran out comfortable 5-0 winners at Wembley.
All of the Blues players will be looking to build on these performances as the international fixtures continue, as well as carry their form back to their club, looking to end the domestic campaign on a high.
