Taking a look at the SEC standings following Week 4

As Week 4 of the college football season comes to a close, let’s take a look at the SEC standings up until this point.

SEC East:

Florida stays at the top of the East standings since the Gators are 2-0 in divisional play with wins against Tennessee and Kentucky, while Georgia has only faced off against Vanderbilt.

The Bulldogs are entering a bye week that is followed by 5 straight SEC East matchups, kickstarted by Tennessee on October 5th.

The biggest surprise in the East is 1-3 Tennessee, which dropped games to Georgia State, BYU and Florida.

Florida – 4-0 overall, 2-0 conference

Georgia – 4-0 overall, 1-0 conference

Missouri – 3-1 overall, 1-0 conference

Tennessee – 1-3 overall, 0-1 conference

Kentucky – 2-2 overall, 0-2 conference

South Carolina – 1-3 overall, 0-2 conference

Vanderbilt – 0-3 overall, 0-2 conference

SEC West:

The West has 3 teams in the Amway Coaches Poll top-10, as well as 2 in the top-4.  Although the SEC West is typically known as the strongest division of the strongest conference in college football, like every conference, there’s always a drop-off.  Alabama, LSU and Auburn are all sitting pretty tied for the #1 spot.

The biggest surprise in the SEC West so far would have to be Texas A&M dropping to last place, as well as #23 in the AP poll.  The Aggies have two very respectable losses to Clemson and Auburn, but will need some big wins against Alabama and LSU if they want to be in contention for the SEC.

Another surprise in the West is the level that Auburn is playing at.  The Tigers are sitting at 4-0 with two nice wins over Oregon and and Texas A&M. They have moved to #7 in the polls after Notre Dame took a slight dip following its loss to Georgia.

Alabama – 4-0 overall, 1-0 conference

Auburn – 4-0 overall, 1-0 conference

LSU – 4-0 overall, 1-0 conference

Mississippi State – 3-1 overall, 1-0 conference

Ole Miss – 2-2 overall, 1-0 conference

Arkansas – 2-2 overall, 0-1 conference

Texas A&M – 2-2 overall, 0-1 conference
