Takeover member Mehrdad Ghodoussi sends Newcastle United message after win at Leicester City

Mehrdad Ghodoussi hailed Newcastle United's victory over Leicester City on Friday evening.

The Magpies ran out 4-2 winners thanks to Callum Wilson's double alongside goals from Joe Willock and Paul Dummett.

Having led 4-0 at one point, the Magpies conceded twice for a nervy finish, but a fine stop from Martin Dubravka went a long way to securing them the three points, which all but secures their safety in the Premier League.

Newcastle lead third-bottom Fulham by 12 points, with the Cottagers having four games to play, meaning they need to win all of their matches and hope Steve Bruce's side do not pick up another point to leapfrog them in the table.

Even then, there is currently a four-team buffer between the Magpies and the bottom three, albeit with all of those teams having at least one game in hand.

It was a performance and a result that prompted Ghodoussi, a member of the consortium looking to takeover the Magpies and husband of consortium head Amanda Staveley, to celebrate.

"That deserves a tweet. Well done @NUFC," he said, adding four applause emojis. "Class performance."

Magpies fans still keen to see the club taken over by the consortium were delighted to see Ghodoussi retaining an interest in the goings-on on Tyneside.

"Get it done," one fan replied.

"We look forward to many more performances like that next season with you in the stands," another said.

A third fan added: "With the right backing and management, we are going to be where we belong."

The Magpies are now set to finish the season with games against Man City, Sheffield United and Fulham.
