Takefusa Kubo on Celtic 'horizon' as Real Madrid starlet’s sponsorship deal opens up link

Reports in Spain have claimed Celtic are interested in signing Real Madrid wonderkid Takefusa Kubo.

AS report Kubo, 19, is attracting the attention of a whopping 29 clubs, with the Parkhead side one of them.

Any deal would be a loan move for the midfielder, who has a jaw-dropping release clause of £227million, although Paris Saint-Germain are keen to sign him on a permanent basis.

And Celtic will be up against the likes of Ajax, Lazio and a clutch of Spanish clubs if Neil Lennon pursues an attempt to land him on loan.

Kubo has spent this season at Mallorca and is set to come up against his parent club in Wednesday night's league fixture.

Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane has hinted at the seven-times Japan cap featuring in his squad next season.

But it's likely he won't make it as one of the club's three permitted non-EU players under La Liga rules.

That means he's set to go out on loan again for the 2020/21 season and Madrid are prioritising a move that would garner him some European experience.

Kubo's popularity in Japan is astronomical - eight of the 10 most-watched La Liga fixtures in the country involve Mallorca and a clash with Villareal generated more viewers than El Clasico this season.

Japanese games company Konami - makers of the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise with which Celtic have a commercial deal - struck a six-figure sponsorship with Mallorca thanks to him.

Next season will be an important one for Kubo on the international stage as Japan look to seal qualification for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

And he's also desperate to star in the country's home Olympic games in Tokyo, which was delayed until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
