Takeaways from first half of Chargers vs. Texans

The Chargers currently lead the Texans 17-7, at the halfway mark.

There have been a few notable takeaways from the first half of the Week 3 matchup.

  • Running backs Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson’s dominance continues. Ekeler and Jackson have been a problem for the Texans to bring down. The duo has accounted for 87 yards of total offense.
  • With linebacker Denzel Perryman back in the lineup, the run defense looks a lot more stout and physical. The Texans have only gained 19 yards on nine carries.
  • The defense hasn’t been doing a great job at pressuring quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson has yet to be sacked, and he’s getting plenty of time in the pocket to throw, which has led to 13-of-17 passing for 152 yards and one touchdown.
  • Safety Roderic Teamer has been up-and-down. Teamer is playing with a lot of energy, but there have been a couple miscues on his end, including the Texans’ flea flicker play to Kenny Stills and touchdown pass to Darren Fells.
  • Cornerback Casey Hayward has done a nice job limiting wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to three catches for only 11 yards. Meanwhile, Brandon Facyson has been a mixed bag. Aside from making a couple key tackles, he’s been beat in coverage.
  • After a solid performance last weekend, left guard Dan Feeney has struggled in pass protection. Feeney also accounted for a holding call which nullified Jackson’s rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
