Takeaways from first half of Chargers vs. Seahawks

The Chargers currently trail the Seahawks, 16-3 at the halfway mark.

There have been a few takeaways from the first half of the third preseason game of 2019:

  • The first-team offensive line did a great job of keeping a clean pocket and creating running lanes for quarterback Tyrod Taylor the first couple of drives. Taylor accounted for 95 yards of the team’s offense.
  • Picking up the blitz up front was a problem last week against the Saints, but they managed to fix that issue tonight. Doing so has led to some key plays, including a nice third-down pickup by tight end Hunter Henry.
  • The first-team secondary is struggling immensely tonight. Their coverage has broken down a few times, which led to big plays by the Seahawks, two by wide receiver Tyler Lockett.
  • The run defense hasn’t been any better, as they allowed 87 yards rushing in the final 4:16 of the first half. Tackling has been one of the issues for the woes in this department.
  • Fourth-down conversions are not going in the team’s favor. They have went for it twice and were stopped on both attempts. Taylor failed on one of the attempts. Coach Anthony Lynn said that this was something he wanted to see how they’d do, and they have failed to execute.
  • Quarterback Cardale Jones has picked up where he left off last weekend. Jones is 3-of-3 for 46 yards since entering the game.
  • Wide receiver Artavis Scott has been the only player at the position that has shown up tonight. Scott has two catches for 46 yards.
