Takeaways from first half of Chargers vs. Colts

The Chargers currently lead the Colts 17-6, at the halfway mark.

There have been a few notable takeaways from the first half of the regular season opener.

  • No Melvin Gordon, no problem. Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson have accounted for 90 yards from the line of scrimmage through the first half.
  • The Philip Rivers-Keenan Allen connection is undefeated. Rivers and Allen connected for a beautiful 27-yard touchdown.
  • The offensive line has fared well on the ground. Center Mike Pouncey’s presence makes a huge different up front.
  • Michael Schofield has struggled in pass protection thus far. Forrest Lamp has only played one snap.
  • Hunter Henry has been quiet in the first half, only being targeted once.
  • With Michael Davis out with a hamstring injury, the Colts have been exploiting Brandon Facyson’s inexperience. There was some miscommunication between Facyson and Adrian Phillips on T.Y. Hilton’s touchdown.
  • Rookies Nasir Adderley and Drue Tranquill haven’t been on the field with the defense, but they have made a pair of key plays on special teams.
  • On pass-rushing downs, the Chargers are going with a defensive line of Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, Jerry Tillery and Isaac Rochell, from left to right. This has been working against Jacoby Brissett.
  • Ty Long is doing a great job filling in for Michael Badgley. Long made his only field goal for 40 yards, as well as the two extra points. His kickoffs have been spot on.
