Takeaway's kind gesture as it makes 'free food' for under-pressure A&E staff

A takeaway in Northern Ireland has shown its support for the NHS after it made a large selection of free food for staff in an A&E department.

Chipmongers Portstewart and The Cove, based in Co Derry, said it had found out that the staff in the Causeway Hospital's Emergency Department were under pressure.

The award-winning fast food restaurant took to social media this week to showcase their kind gesture to their followers, saying it was something they 'loved to do'.

Writing on Facebook, Chipmongers said: " When you hear the A&E department is under pressure. Nothing else for it but send some food up for the staff working so hard. Always be kind and help where you can. We love what we do."

The move prompted high praise from members of the public with one saying: "What a lovely gesture, especially at a time when the businesses have their own struggles well done."

A second said: "I cannot appreciate this more. We have to look after our own, and our nurses, doctors, healthcare assistants and paramedics deserve this recognition and support."

Meanwhile, a third added: "Every little treat is so appreciated by all who work in healthcare as sometimes on the shift you literally get through you’re day on fresh air."
