Takeaway owner's message to customers after night of 'abuse'

A popular takeaway issued a message to customers after a busy night of abuse over the weekend.

Frydays in Southport offered a rare 20% discount on food on Friday October 8.

This lead to an influx of orders, which the takeaway admittedly struggled keeping up with.

The takeaway found themselves "overwhelmed" with orders and didn't expect it to "take off as well as it did".

As a result, the takeaway struggled to get food out on time, with the takeaway, based on Eastbourne Road, receiving comments and abuse.

The chippy took to Facebook on Saturday to explain: "Hi everybody it’s Paul from FRYDAYS,

"As you are all aware we had a 20% discount on last night, to try and reach new customers and to try and give a little bit back to the community with everything that is going on recently, price increases, covid, etc..

"This was our first ever discounted Friday night, and we were seriously overwhelmed with the amount of orders we received, we were prepared and ready for a really busy night, but due it to being a Friday we didn’t expect it to take off as well as it did.

"We tried our hardest to get the food out on time to people, but we can only do so much with so many orders, and our delivery drivers worked hard which they can only go so fast within the speed limits without breaking the law.

"As the owner, the comments/abuse I received last night, was quite upsetting. I would much rather if everybody has any issues with anything, to please message me or FRYDAY’s direct, as I’m always happy to sort the issues out to make my customers happy.

"We are doing a discount tonight but only 10% off, so if we do get overwhelmed we will be turning our machines off. Which we did do the last time and received abuse again for turning it off. Sometimes you just can’t win.

"Thank you everybody, happy Saturday!"

People were quick to support the local takeaway.

One woman commented: "Even if the food is a little late, it's worth the wait! People need to realise Friday nights are busy anyway, absolutely no need for abuse. We love ordering from you!"

Another commented: "Things like this can happen, you guys tried your hardest and these things happen, well done!"
