Takeaway fire causes damage to popular Ayrshire chip shop

An Ayrshire chip shop has been left damaged after a fire broke out at the takeaway last night.

Welbeck Fish and Chips was evacuated yesterday evening after a blaze erupted at the Kilmarnock venue a few hours after opening.

It's understood that nobody was injured in the fire but staff and management have been left shaken by the incident.

It's believed that the takeaway will remain closed for the moment as owners work to reopen as soon as possible.

The fish and chip bar was closed last night following the inferno.

Two fire crews raced to the Welbeck Street eaterie just after 4pm on Sunday and firefighters left the scene after making the area safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 4.15pm on Sunday, November 28, to reports of a fire affecting commercial premises in a single storey building in Welbeck Street, Kilmarnock.

“Operations control immediately mobilised two fire engines to the location and firefighters extinguished the fire.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
