Takeaway driver threatened with taser then assaulted in attempted robbery

A takeaway driver was threatened with a taser, assaulted then chased by a man who smashed his car windows while his partner and toddler were inside.

The 29-year-old was walking in Cochranemill Road, Johnstone when he was approached by the man who demanded his car keys and money just after midnight last night.

The victim managed to make it back to his Nissan Mirca which had his partner and their three year-old daughter inside – however the thug ran after the car and broke the passenger side windows before it drove off onto Beith Road.

Detective Inspector Robert Bowie of Paisley Police Office said:  “This was a terrifying incident for this young family and luckily they were not seriously injured during this attack.

“A dark-coloured vehicle van was seen in Cochranehill Road whilst this incident took place, and I am appealing to the occupants of that vehicle to get in touch.

“At this time we are appealing to anyone who has any information on this crime to contact us as soon as possible through 101 quoting reference number 0013 of 19th April 2019.”
