Takeaway delivery driver's face slashed by knife-wielding robber in Cardiff

A takeaway delivery driver is recovering after he was slashed across the face during a terrifying knifepoint robbery in Cardiff.

The victim is unable to talk properly because of the stitches he needed for an injury made to his face during the attack in Ely .

Police said the 60-year-old driver was returning to his car in Lauriston Close at around 10pm on Saturday when he was threatened by a man demanding money.

He handed over all the money he had – less than £50 – and suffered slash wounds to his face, torso and hand.

The suspect is described as white, tall, slim, aged 18-25, clean shaven and around 5ft 10ins.

He had a local accent and was wearing a black hooded coat.

It is believed a car, possibly light blue, pulled into the street at the time of the incident and detectives are keen to speak to those who were in the car as they may have crucial information.

Detective Sergeant Sam Thomas, from South Wales Police, said: “The victim is still in a lot of pain and discomfort and is unable to talk properly due to stitches and swelling to his face.

“This is a very unusual, and completely unacceptable, level of violence against a man who was just going about his work delivering take-away food in Ely.

“We are appealing for witnesses to the incident, anyone who may have dash cam footage and anyone who has information on the suspect, to please come forward.”

Officers are checking CCTV, carrying out house to house enquiries, and a number of items have been forensically examined.

Anyone with information is asked to call South Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number 331135.
